THE EFFECT OF STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT APPLICATIONS ON CABIN TEAM BEHAVIORS IN AIRLINES: THE CASE OF TURKISH AIRLINES

Abstract

The survival of people in the face of wars and other developments has been an important issue. In the following years, this issue was handled with a management approach. The concept of management emerged as a result of practical and theoretical knowledge. In order to achieve certain goals, the management aims to take decisions that allow the use of raw materials, tools-equipment, fixtures, economic resources and auxiliary materials, primarily in the field of human resources, in harmony and effective use of the final time factor. Although there are many components among the management concepts, one of them is strategic management. The main purpose in strategic management is to create a proactive management approach, provided that strategies for organizational activities are found, implemented as a result of analysis, and the results are monitored, recorded and evaluated. People can choose sea, land and air routes for transportation. Airline is among the most preferred travels in this regard. When the figures for the end of May are analyzed on the number of passengers who prefer airline companies only in Turkey, 57 million passengers traveled by air in Turkey in the first 5 months of 2022. Thousands of cabin crew took part in this transportation. The officers responsible for the implementation of the necessary safety and security measures and passenger comfort in aircraft are called cabin attendants or cabin attendants. Cabin attendants in aircraft have an active role. In these processes, he works in the cabin section of the aircraft in order to carry out the flights in a comfortable, safe and secure manner. In this study, it is aimed to determine the effects of the activities implemented by the airline companies within the scope of strategic management practices on the cabin attendants' behaviors. In the study, cabin attendants working in THY company operating in the aviation sector participated in the study. In the study, a questionnaire consisting of 8 questions was created and conveyed to the cabin crew. In the study, the answers of 18 cabin attendants who answered the research questions were taken into account. 88.8% of the participants were women, 55.5% were between the ages of 36-45, and 61.1% were undergraduates. In addition, 77.7% of the participants stated that there was a strategic management application in their business and it was seen that the strategic management practices applied in the business affected 50% of the personnel.
